Ephesians 5:8-13

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.


This verse really is what "Exposing Narnia" is all about. We as Christians should walk in light and expose whatever things are not of light but darkness. This can be hard and dangerous but we must be like Daniel, willing to stand up for what we believe. And trust God for the results!


Let's not fall asleep as Christians, but remain awake and awaiting the Masters return.

Tash and the Last Battle

Tash and the Last Battle; Theological implications

...Let me begin this post by saying; I understand the draw Narnia has for so many readers. I have felt the thrill when I recognize some spiritual truth. And even today, when I go over parts of C.S Lewis' books for reference, I feel a deep sad feeling - a part of me wants to say "skip the bad parts and just accept him and his books".

...But this is the danger, the danger of a lie mixed with truth. We must be spiritually minded and see his works as God would see his works, would God accept his depiction of Christ? What about the way he viewed Gods Sovereignty? Or the way C.S Lewis presented the "gospel"?( if indeed he was) Our faith is more than feeling, its substance is rooted in the Jesus Christ of the pure gospel. And despite all the admirable "tingly" qualities of Aslan, he is not Jesus Christ. The danger of a lie mixed with truth is that there will be things we like and agree with in it.

...This post is dealing with C.S Lewis "Last Battle", primarily chapter 15. In this section we come across "Emeth" a Calormene wandering about in "heaven". When he meets the children they question him concerning his origin and purpose. This he relates to them, including how Aslan found him and what Aslan said to him.

...The following is an exact quote of Aslan's words to Emeth found in Chapter 15. Read carefully. Also, I have added the emphasis.

"...the Glorious One bent down his golden head and touched my forehead with his tongue and said, Son, thou art welcome. But I said, Alas, Lord, I am no son of Thine but the servant of Tash. He answered, Child, all the service thou hast done to Tash, I account as service done to me... I take to me the services which thou hast done to him, for I and he are of such different kinds that no service which is vile can be done to me, and none which is not vile can be done to him. Therefore if any man swear by Tash and keep his oath for the oaths sake, it is by me that he has truly sworn, though he knows it not, and it is I who reward him..."

...I am aware that there are many interpretations of this passage, but if you follow most through to their Scriptural conclusion; the end is erroneous, a false view of salvation.

...Do you believe in mans total depravity? If you do not than you will not agree with me on this passage. Total depravity means that man as a consequence of the fall is enslaved to sin and unable to choose to follow God. Period, we cannot earn salvation, nor can we come to the Lord without His drawing us to himself. Another implication of this is that man by nature is not inclined to love God or serve Him, but is instead in rebellion to his Creator seeking to set up his own gods and go his own way. It is only by Gods grace that any can come to Christ, and it is only by Christ's righteousness that we are accepted as holy in His sight. All our righteousness is but filthy rags.....

Romans 3:11 -18
There is none righteous, no, not one;
There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.”
“ Their throat is an open tomb;
With their tongues they have practiced deceit”;

“ The poison of asps is under their lips”;
“ Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”
“ Their feet are swift to shed blood;
Destruction and misery are in their ways;
And the way of peace they have not known.”
“ There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

...All this being said lets look once again at the previous section from C.S Lewis book. We see Aslan accepting, loving and forgiving one who said himself that he had never served Him; "Alas, Lord, I am no son of Thine but the servant of Tash."Why? Why is C.S Lewis saying this, including this? What do you think his reasons are? Regardless of his reasons, what are the implications of what Aslan is saying? He is saying that a Buddhist who does good works in the name of Buddha can be accepted in Gods sight because of the good works. This is a wrong, wrong view of salvation. Catholic and New Age combined. "It doesn't matter what you believe as long as you believe" and "doing good works will save you". Remember what Christ said.

John 6:27-29
Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

...Jesus, the Son of God, is the only way! We cannot be saved accept by our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Read the next verse from Romans 3.

Romans 3:19-20
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

..Good works will not render us acceptable to God because without Christ we have no remission for sins, we have no Sacrifice, we have no High priest, we have no Mediator. A man or woman who serves Baal, who serve themselves, who serve the World; in short who are not the Lord's will never come to salvation. We must acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and accept him as our treasure; we must die to self and live as Christ.

Galatians 2: 20-21
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”

...The Scriptures speak for themselves, I encourage you to do a search in Gods Word if you have further questions. Below is a quotation from another of C.S Lewis books which also displays the same attitude towards salvation. God bless you and keep you in His pure gospel all the days of your life!

"There are people in other religions who are being led by God’s secret influence to concentrate on those parts of their religion which are in agreement with Christianity, and who thus belong to Christ without knowing it. For example, a Buddhist of good will may be led to concentrate more and more on the Buddhist teaching about mercy and to leave in the background (though he might still say he believed) the Buddhist teaching on certain other points. Many of the good Pagans long before Christ’s birth may have been in this position. And always, of course, there are a great many people who are just confused in mind and have a lot of inconsistent beliefs all jumbled up together. Consequently, it is not much use trying to make judgments about Christians and non-Christians in the mass." C.S Lewis -Mere Christianity, Chapter 10, page 209

Worship of the Sun?

...It is curious to me that many occultists see something in Narnia which Christians do not. Specifically, elements of the ancient pagan practice of worshiping the sun. One definition of the suns place in mythology is as follows; “the active or male principle in nature, wanderer, lion, gold, symbolized by the bow and arrow”…Gertrude Jobes the “Dictionary of Mythology, Folklore, and Symbols.” Hmm, lion? Is it possible that C.S Lewis had more in mind than the “lion of Judah” when he created Aslan? Let’s look closer.

...In almost every description of Aslan he is described as having shaggy golden hair, spreading the feeling of spring with beams of light. (“Magicians Nephew”, pg 114, 173 and the whole creation story; and in the “Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe”, pg 65 and especially pg 74) Remember the rhyme for Aslan’s return? “An old rhyme in these parts…When he bares his teeth winter meets its death and when he shakes his mane we shall have spring again”, the “Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe” pg 74.




...All this in itself is not enough to make a case for possible sun worship. After all, Jesus Christ is gloriously bright, the bright and morning star. But now look at something else, the clincher.

...Who is Jadis? We all know she is the white witch, evil and holding a spell over Narnia. But who do you think she “symbolizes” in Lewis’ books? Most would say Satan or the “forces of evil” obviously! Yet wait, is it really that obvious. Who is Aslan sacrificed to in the “Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe”? Remember Jadis words to Aslan, “that by the workings of the deep magic she was given ownership of all the traitors and the right to kill them”. If Jadis is a picture of Satan, and Aslan is a picture of Christ then this is at best heresy. We know that it is God who casts sinners into hell for their sins, not Satan. And Jesus Christ was sacrificed to God the Father as atonement for our sins, not to Satan.

Isaiah 53: 5-6 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

...So if Lewis trying to portray Christ here there are two options we can choose from; one, he believes Satan is a super force equal to God and must be “appeased”, not God the Father; two, he is trying to mix the Christian faith with pagan elements like worship of the sun. It is unlikely that a man of his caliber in education unwittingly made a “mistake”; he was a theologian. I favor option number two because of what else we find in his books.

...In the “Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe”, pg 50, the white witch shaves off Aslan’s mane. I think this is more than a portrayal of the humiliation of Christ by His enemies. Ritual shaving of the head is associated with sun worship; the rays of the sun are cut off at night and during the winter, so priests/priestesses of this pagan worship cut off their hair when the sun “died”. This fact sheds light on why God forbids the shaving of His priest’s heads, see Ezekiel 44:20. “They shall neither shave their heads, nor let their hair grow long, but they shall keep their hair well trimmed. “ The Lord didn’t want any confusion or similarities between his servants and those of idols.

...It’s interesting that Aslan rose with the next dawn after his death, and that mice gnawed off the ropes which bound him. Mice are sacred to Apollo the Greek sun god. In fact “Apollon” means “from the depths of the lion” or “father lion”. How many times do we read descriptions of Aslan facing the sun as it rose in the east? Many times, remember what God said in Ezekiel 8:13-15 about those who worshiped the sun rising in the east?

Ezekiel 8:13-15 And He said to me, “Turn again, and you will see greater abominations that they are doing.” So He brought me to the door of the north gate of the Lord’s house; and to my dismay, women were sitting there weeping for Tammuz. Then He said to me, “Have you seen this, O son of man? Turn again; you will see greater abominations than these.” So He brought me into the inner court of the Lord’s house; and there, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east, and they were worshiping the sun toward the east.

...There is a lot here to be thought about. Did you know that the Chronicles of Narnia are loved by the occult and sold on the shelves next to witchcraft? Those who are witches/satanic recognize the pagan themes in Narnia and embrace it. What did Christ say about Himself?

Mathew 10:33-35 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’…

...Christ said that the world would hate Him and us, why then is the world so enamored with Narnia if it is true Christian allegory? (After all, Disney made a production of it!) It is because they do not find Christ in Narnia, it is not “Christian” enough to convict or bother them. But it is “Christian” enough to deceive many of God’s own.

Mixing truth with a lie

The dangerous implications of this practice revealed in C.S Lewis

Have you ever studied literature from a Christian worldview? If so then you have been blessed, and are doubly responsible for the way you present that literature to others. I have been privileged to study literature from a Christian worldview, censuring the material for unbiblical things. If you have not taken a course nor done reading on biblical worldview I strongly urge you to; it will not be wasted time and will change the way you see everything.

...Yet despite all the “training” we may have had as Christians in identifying what is biblically sound and what is not, there are times when we simply do not see. God is the One who gives us any amount of knowledge or understanding.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

...I believe that this has been happening in the Christian church today regarding C.S Lewis’ books. Many intelligent, highly educated men of the faith have failed to recognize some of the dangerous pitfalls for Christianity in C.S Lewis books. Can it be surprising that many uneducated, young and new Christians have failed to see them as well? But it is the knowledgeable, researched men and women who I believe will be held more accountable; those who have studied there bibles for years and come to all kinds of conclusions about all kinds of doctrines; yet have failed in their own personal life to apply their understanding of scripture to C.S Lewis’ books. (And even read them aloud to there children without qualm or concern, or send their children to read the books themselves as “good” Christian literature.)

...I am now launching a series of posts on C.S Lewis book’s and personal writings, hoping to help others discover the awful lie which has been mixed with a grain of truth. I did not come to these convictions myself at first, and am one of the ones who should have seen but did not. The Holy Spirit used many godly people and online resources to open my eyes; I am indebted to Him and to them. This so clearly illustrates to me, once again, that it’s not by anything I do that I have any understanding of these things; it is only by the grace of God working in me. And it will be the same for you, for all who believe.

...I give thanks to all those people who did such massive amounts of study online! You have helped me to understand more of what it means to be holy. I cannot credit all of you here, especially as some are anonymous. Also for the nature of my blog I do not feel justified in sending some younger readers to websites which though excellent are perhaps too descriptive for their age. On this blog I hope to present material which although it will still be truthful, will hopefully be appropriate for most of the ages I imagine will possibly be reading on here. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

...Because you are committed to a high calling, I want to bring up a hard thing. Are the chronicles of Narnia series actually Christian literature, are they glorifying to Christ? This topic is highly controversial and I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Also I ask that you would commit the matter to prayer during and after reading, and before forming any conclusions. It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit would be present during this time, and that He would illuminate our minds to truth.

...All this being said, take a look at the following questions. Try to answer them truthfully to yourself.

1. What does it mean to be holy?
2. What do you know about C.S Lewis’ personal life?
3. Have you ever felt uneasy about any of his writings?
4. Why did you first read the Chronicles of Narnia?
5. Did you come to them already assuming they were Christian literature?
7. Do you see Christ in Narnia?
8. Is it your normal practice to read other peoples works with your spiritual armor in place, and carefully searching out if what they say is in fact biblical and Christ glorifying?

...These questions will be brought up during the following paper I have written on this topic. It will be helpful to keep them in mind throughout.

Narnia; Offspring of God or Satan?

...About a year ago I was an avid reader of anything by C.S Lewis. My personal book collection was becoming well stocked with the titles we are all so familiar with; the Chronicles of Narnia, the Space Trilogy, Till We Have Faces, The Four Loves, and the list goes on. Everywhere I looked in C.S Lewis books I thought I saw Christ and a great Christian message, it seemed an undeniable fact and I would argue with anyone who said differently. My family had read the Chronicles of Narnia out loud together when I was young; so the characters were familiar and beloved to me.

...Then in one day God removed a thousand blinders and I saw C.S Lewis’s books for the first time as what they really are-and I was appalled. I sought Gods face, realizing that if I, a reader who adored C.S Lewis books, could in one moment of time become sickened at the sight of them; it must be nothing less than an act of God. My mother had been reading the Narnia series out loud to my younger siblings and was beginning to feel uncomfortable with several things. One, C.S Lewis frequently mentioned mythological creatures and gods in his children literature. Two, although the books seem to have many Christian morals and allegory’s there are major theological problems in several places. So in light of this she did an online search to see if there were others with the same questions. She came up with a website that literally blew her away!

...When I got up that morning and sat down to read what she was showing me, I found myself riveted within moments. I highly recommend this website, http://www.heavenisopen.com/narnia.html, by David Sorenson, you can read it here, or you can find a link to it on the side. This mans write up on Narnia is so convicting because it comes straight from Gods Word! I could feel the Holy Spirit moving with great power while reading; here is what I saw and what I am now convicted of.

...Is Scripture the final authority on everything? I believe it is not only the final authority but the only authority by which we are to live our lives. Despite this, I often find that I am not abiding by what it says. I don’t really search out the scriptures like the Bereans to see if a matter is true. And I see that often the church does the same thing, do we hold a belief because of someone else or because we ourselves have been convicted in Gods Word?

...The church today has almost unanimously accepted C.S Lewis as a brilliant Christian author; his books are being used as teaching material, book studies, group discussions, and more. But many have not tried Lewis’ books themselves by the infallible test of scripture. Instead they are merely accepting it because most Christians do. Why is it that the church at large can agree to accept this guy without close scrutiny in light of Gods Word, yet we often cannot agree on things which have been searched out? And even break fellowship over those things? My proposal is that we are blinded, by our own pride and Satan.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”
Therefore
“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
“I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the LORD Almighty.”


...Read the above carefully. C.S Lewis books are full of pagan gods, idols. In Prince Caspian we see Aslan and the children being followed by many diverse creatures. Among the animals we find a startling entity; Bacchus, the roman god of wine, drunkenness, madness, immoral relationships and a score of other things. Not only is he here, but so are his followers the Maenads. For those who do not know what Maenads are, they are probably some of the most perverse figures in Greek mythology; wild seductive women, who dance in frenzied demonic dances upon the hillsides, no doubt possessed by evil spirits. They commit murder, sexual immorality, and other things I am not going into here. What are these demonic beings doing in a child’s book of “Christian literature”?

...This is a question we should all be asking ourselves at this point. And to make it worse, Aslan the Christ figure is friends with them! If you read on just a little further you come to a magic “dance” where food and drink appear. Aslan is right there eating and drinking with these pagan gods. Again I must emphasize 2 Corinthians 6:14-16, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God.”

...This is dangerous ground my friends, what is C.S Lewis trying to imply? No one can deny that his books have many Christian elements in them, though he himself said he was not trying to make an allegory; but why have we missed the pagan elements? And the mixing of our pure faith with idolatry? It is dangerous to blur the lines, especially for children. I think C.S Lewis will have much to answer for on judgment day.

...But let’s take this even further. Have you ever wandered about Mr. Beaver’s statement to the children in “the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe”; the one about Jadis being descended from Adams first wife Lilith? The very fact that this is contrary to scripture should have us wandering, and looking for answers as Christians who know the Genesis account. The “legend” or “tradition” that Adam had a wife before Eve is Satanic and occultic. (Many believe Lilith is the wife or consort of Lucifer) “Lilith” is a demon, the mother of hordes of demons in mythology. Modern day witches invoke her presence today; in history she is a seductress and cannibal, who takes men in their sleep and eats newborn children. Can you believe that we find a mention of her in this book? And coming as authoritative from Mr. Beaver, who is teaching the children Narnia’s history.

...Also in the “Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe” we find Tumnus. This likable, friendly character is symbolic of more sickening depravity. “Pan” is a Greek idol, still important in modern witch craft, half man- half goat. Basically we are talking about fauns. Pan represents extreme forms of sexual perversity, including immoral relations with goats; he is also a source of divine inspiration for his followers. I am sorry to be so specific, but sometimes we need to be shocked out of our comfort zone. God calls sexual relations between animals and humans an abomination, read Exodus 22:19, Deuteronomy 27:21 and Leviticus 18:23. Just the fact that we as humans have created such a thing as “fauns” is wrong; God does not want humans mixed with animals in this world, why do we think we have the right to “invent” other worlds which break Gods law?

2 Corinthians 10: 4-6

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.


...We must seek to tear down strongholds that exalt themselves against Christ and the revealed knowledge of God. C. S Lewis obviously was not trying to do this; he was trying to mix the pure revealed truth of God with the world, and his own vain imagination. What does it mean to be holy? 1 Corinthians 10:20-21 says, “Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s Table and of the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?” We cannot partake of both tables, the table of the world’s myths and the table of the Gospel, the table of Satan’s lies and the table of Truth. I think C.S Lewis did this; he was a seriously troubled man who should not have been writing books for Christians to read, especially children.

... But what about the Christian allegory’s? The Christ figure Aslan? I ask, do you find Christ in Narnia? If you do then he is not the Jesus Christ of the pure gospel we know. Aslan is a friend and companion of demons, a deceiver and a fake. The Jesus Christ we know has no communion with darkness, why aren’t Christians enflamed over the comparison of Christ to Aslan? And if you do not see Christ in Narnia then why call it Christian literature? I am not saying that we should never read anything we do not agree with, there are times when it is appropriate for study. Even Paul went around and looked at all the Greek idols before discussing the Gospel with the people of Athens. What I am trying to point out is the grave error of the church in calling these books Christian literature, and in encouraging many naive people to read them as such.

... Now let me clarify something, I do not judge whether or not C.S Lewis is saved-God knows, it is not for me to decide. But his books are decidedly against what I believe, they mix the pure word of God, that which we have seen and heard from the beginning, with the world and demonic idols. It is a fact that C.S Lewis was exposed to the occult in his youth and it had an attraction for him his whole life. He himself admitted this in some of his books. I am not saying that we must be sinless or never have been tempted to be qualified to write Christian literature! Far from it, for then no one could write. What I am saying is that we must look at C. S Lewis writings and test them by Scripture.

...There is so, so much more that I could go into. Each of CS. Lewis books affords examples of what I have been talking about. But this paper is long enough already. Brothers and Sisters in Christ, are you convicted as I am? If you are then what are we going to do about it? The Lord has made a covenant with His people and calls us to be holy, set apart for Him. We are His Bride, how can we cleanse the church?
